Starts off simple
Starts off sweet
But it gets so trying
Life gets so trying
Thought I’d let go
And with defeat
That I’d stay silent
But I’m defiant
More than once I’ve seen the crown
And known that I’m more armour bound
But I take a deep breath swallow down
The hardest part is over now
You got a way to get to me
That little voice is all I need
To get me going
And keep me rolling
Saw that window
I took a peek
But I couldn’t find it
See I don’t mind it

Up and Out

Say maybe could we down the clocks for once
Sounds crazy but I’ve got no accomplishments
Please save me without land I got no mark on the map
Say maybe could you lend me a hand and put me back on the path
Cause I’ve got no estate
Sounds crazy but the farmland’s looking mighty fine
Please save me like an over ripe peach I’ve harvested my time
Is this my fate? Bruised and battered each day.
So get up and get out of there
Cause you’ll never know what gets you till you’re down
So get up and get out of there
Cause you’ll never know what gets you till you’re out
I was a fool to think that
Life would come so easily
I know
So tell me if the second or third time’s the charm
What befell me if this fails me again might it do me some harm
Might as well be the last thing on earth it’s the last thing I’ll try
How does Janelle see all of that beauty and oh why can’t I
See this fate of mine is such a waste of time
Just hold on to that hope don’t cut it out!

Pontiac

The scarlet sun seeped through the tin roof
Of what used to be
The first love life and joy of a teen who
Let love creep
Right through the cracks
But if we go back
I’m sure you’re bound to see
This steel and wheels knows more of life than me
A starlit blue the car rolled off the lot
And out the prison gates
And met the family who would take him home
And bestow on him his fate
For the first ten years he’d watch the children grow
And finally as they climbed
There’d finally come his
Times change like the radio
When songs we love before
Don’t cut it anymore
Times change when the open road
Is lost or out of hold
Through the eyes of the dashboard
A hand-me-down from father to his boy
The old became the new
A beaten wreck the wrong man fixed his toy
Brought it back to its fine youth
Then showed him life: the tears, the backseat joys
And all the in-betweens
But suddenly it seems that
And as he grew old,
Lo and behold,
He moved away but the car remained.

Wake Up

Come on and wake up
The father told the son
You gotta lift the stakes up
Though life does way a ton
And sometimes it makes you feel haunted
But it’s all that you’ve ever wanted
Cause all he wanted was a chance to prove his worth
A chance he’s been searching for since birth
And if life was fair on this green earth
He’d have shown, have it proven by now
But all he got was just the taste of their dull eyes
As they looked on him silence cried
His only fault was his surprise
He should have known he was living in clouds
Live it up boy
And show the world
All that you’ve got boy
She wore a tight knit shirt with cut offs at the knees
A fashion don’t, but fashion, please
She had more thoughts to fill her teeth
And never spoke unless sure of her words
That they would leave a mark on those she left behind
But problem was it’s hard to find
The type of folks that use their mind
They were left with the silence she heard
Live it up girl
And show the world
All that you’ve got girl
Cause those teeth of pearls
Should be moving so hot
And every time you leave there eyes closed
Sure you even out the score
But every time you play the window
Or you open up the door
You get a chance
To finally see
Just what it is this world could be

To Say the Most
04:18
|
|||
A bird flies from the sky
We catch each others eyes
For a moment we are alone from needs
And life could pass us by
A feather drops from wing
As I pick it up it sings
From the sweetest voice, the darkest choice
A question: what future brings?
But it’s been a love to say the least
To say the most I’d talk for weeks
And never ever get the point across
It’s been the world to live this life
And live within the sea to sky
And never ever know the weather whether rain and or sunscreen crossed
But nearest I can see
A city bus for me
And as I jump on board I hear the final chord
A whisper to engines scream
I turn my head to the coast
The softest breast I know
And if I turn up north the mountains teeth are torn
And mirror white currents flow
And if I ever leave this place
It’ll never leave my face
I’d never think of chasing pavement in a place like this
As I cross the parting lips
And enter the dimly lit
I see the tallest trees
In disbelief
At what we have permit
I think of friends they lost at war
I think of friends I’ve lost before
And if the whale had say
In this parks decay
He’d be sure we’d remember it more
But as the lights burn up the street
My painful thoughts they turn and retreat
And never ever could I feel better
In fact it could be worse
I could wake up each day to find
A landscape barren as wasted time
But as I stand on this busy street
I cast this feather to the sea
I’d never think of chasing pavement in a place like this

Sunsets
04:40
|
|||
The sun rose cautiously
Under blanketed caverns they clung to their sleep
And fought the signs of day
While beaches were waking only footsteps away
With shallow steps they crept
Woke to their best friends and if god would let them
They’d swallow water down
With stomachs all settled they’d race for the medal
Of darkness on the beach
The sun burned like cinders and shadows were splinters of
Winters cool soft breeze
With red faces in sand they prayed for relief and
That time for them would stop
Stuck in that hour oh if they had that power
But living in these dreams
Did they leave something unseen
Don’t take the time we shared for granted and granted
The doused and fallen star enchanted the romantics
You’ll tell me
“We’re the first to witness
Dancing life and glowing death”
The rain it kept up during sunset.
With darkness falling slow
They strolled to the seashore to take in its sweet chord
Like music to their ears
The rain’s speckled dancing the waves’ heavy crashing
With sunshine flooding through
The rainbows leaped to life like a melody soft and light
They’d part paths in time
But for that single instant they knew what friendship meant
They each stared
As the light they cherished
Was extinguished by the sea
And held their hearts to rains’ soft beat
Time crawls, my strength it shatters
There’s only so much in me
When I fall I’ll lose what matters
Without these memories
But I promise to hold the fort and
I promise to not resort to
Taking the time we shared for granted.
Don’t take the time we shared for granted
